Klobuchar On passage of the Children’s Health Insurance Program

08/03/2007

Washington, D.C. – Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) made the following statement marking Senate passage of the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). The bill passed the Senate late Thursday night.

“The Senate took an important step tonight by reauthorizing the Children’s Health Insurance Program, continuing coverage for more than 6 million of our nation’s children and expanding coverage to include more than 3.2 million more. Our children deserve every chance to succeed, and the Children’s Health Insurance Program ensures not only their health, but their future.

What’s more, it’s a fiscally responsible bill. These are commitments I made to the people of Minnesota, and I’m so glad to be part of a Senate that can deliver.”
