WASHINGTON - Sen. Amy Klobuchar named Lee Sheehy, who has played a role in a variety of major Minneapolis development projects, as her chief of staff Friday.
Sheehy, director of the Minneapolis Department of Community Planning and Economic Development, has taken leading roles on condominium construction and the Twins stadium projects. He's also worked in other public offices, including serving as chief deputy attorney to former Attorney General Hubert Humphrey from 1995 to 1999 and regional administrator and chief operating officer of the Metropolitan Council from 2001 to 2002.
Sheehy starts next month. The spot opened last month when Sean Richardson said he was taking a job in the private sector in Washington to spend more time with his growing family.
City Council Member Lisa Goodman said Washington needs people like Sheehy.
"Lee is an incredibly gifted servant and served the city so well," she said. "Amy is very, very lucky to have him."
