Sen. Amy Klobuchar today renewed her demand for answers to questions about why former U.S. Attorney Tom Heffelfinger was on a Justice Department list to be fired.

Klobuchar said she is asking Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., to pursue the matter at a hearing on Tuesday.

Klobuchar expressed frustration that even though she has requested information from Attorney General Alberto Gonzales about the Heffelfinger question, she has received nothing from Gonzalez. Instead, she said she read a Los Angeles Times story indicating that Justice Department officials were upset with Heffelfinger because he was defending American Indian voting rights on the eve of the 2004 election.
