If you’re still thinking about throwing your hat in the ring for an elected office, do it now. Candidate filings close today in cities and school districts where primaries are held. Then mark your calendars for this year’s election season. Here’s what you need to know:

•Thursday: If you get cold feet, withdraw your name by 5 p.m.

•Aug. 12: Absentee voting for the primary election begins.

•Aug. 30: Candidate filings open in cities that don’t hold primaries.

•Sept. 13: Primary election.

•Sept. 13: Candidate filings end in cities without primaries. You have until Sept. 15 to withdraw your name if you change your mind.

•Oct. 7: Absentee balloting for the general election begins.

•Nov. 8: General election.
