Liebling: Special Session Update 6/27/05
06/27/2005
Dear Friends:
There is movement in budget negotiations at the capitol.
Since Friday, when I wrote the text for this update, the Senate has made
yet another proposal: this one would accept the Governor’s $0.75
cigarette fee and raise income taxes by a more modest amount than their
previous proposal.
The Republican leadership in the House has also put
forward some new ideas--including one that would preserve eligibility
for MinnesotaCare.
Conference Committees (called “working groups”
during this special session) are working long hours to examine the
various proposals and reach agreement on many issues.
These are all good signs. I am looking forward to a successful
resolution this week.
I hope you are keeping cool!
Warmly,
Tina Liebling
