Hi.

My name is Justin Ruben. I work for MoveOn, but I don't usually write these emails. I spend my time supervising our campaigns.

I'm writing to ask for a bit of help.

You might have heard that there's a huge vote coming up in September on Iraq. After General Petraeus issues his report, Congress will decide whether to give the president another blank check—for another year of civil war.

We're pulling out all the stops to make sure they don't. We just can't afford that. And you know what? I'm pretty optimistic. The public's with us—but it's a question of how much light we can shine on the members of Congress who admit the war's a mess, but won't vote to end it. There are enough of them to tip this vote.

So we've shifted our organizing into overdrive. We're holding event after event to put their hypocrisy in front of the voters. And we need some help to keep it going. Can you chip in $25 to keep the pressure on 'til the big vote?

Right now our Operation Democracy staff is criss-crossing the country, helping volunteers organize everything from vigils to townhalls to news conferences. We're running from rally to meeting to training—and we're on the phone in between. And it's working! More and more Republicans are coming out against the president. But we need to keep it up non-stop through September.

And even though most of the work is done by volunteers, and our staff is sleeping on couches, that'll cost money we don't have right now. Money for more phone calls. Money for huge signs to get our message across at rallies. Money for bus tickets and train tickets and gas. Money for pizza when MoveOn leaders—busy folks like you, many of them with kids—stay up 'til 3am to ensure the next big event is a success (past midnight, volunteers need pizza!).

We can't stand an endless war. We can't stand waiting until the next presidential election. We can't stand a Republican bait-and-switch, where our elected officials pay lip-service to ending the war—and then keep it going under another name. There are troops in harm's way, and families that want them home. There are domestic priorities that are being starved of funding.

And yet, there are also many hundreds of thousands of committed folks out there, working day in and day out to force an end to this war. With your help, we'll transform this August into the moment when we turned the tide. Can you help?
