Lynch Blasts GOP Over Failed Tax Policy

10/19/2006

Ann Lynch, the DFL candidate for Senate District 30 blasted her Republican opponent Scott Wright over the State GOP policy of: “No New Taxes.”

The debate was sponsored by “Debate Minnesota,” an organization that promotes fair and open discussion of election issues.

Lynch, the DFL candidate, said Minnesota had “abandoned its progressive tradition, and the consequences have been soaring tuition with crumbling roads and bridges across our State.”

“The question that we have to ask is: ‘What is our vision?’ Then we need to have the political courage to stand up for those things,” she said.

As for school taxes both candidates agreed on the need for increases to assure quality education of Rochester students.

Ann Lynch serves on Rochester’s school board and plainly stated the situation that we are experiencing with the GOP:

Lynch said that our State has been subjected to “budget gimmicks and shifts” long enough under the GOP and Gov. Tim Pawlenty.

She argued that our State has declined in two areas where the State Constitution explicitly requires action: Education and Transportation.

“It seems to me that if our house isn’t in order in those two areas then that would be pretty good place to start,” she said.

Apparently voters agree with Lynch since they keep indicating that these are two key areas of concern in a variety of polls run during this election season.

Under the Pawlenty Administration our State of Minnesota educational ratings have plunged from 16th in the nation to the lowest levels and now rank Minnesota with Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana. Many people feel that is a disgrace.
