Wednesday, 14 November 2007

Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, Chair of the National Governors Association (NGA), and Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle, chair of the Midwestern Governors Association (MGA), will co-host the Midwestern Governors Association Energy Security and Climate Change Summit on Nov. 14-15, 2007 in Milwaukee.

At the Summit, governors from across the Midwest and the Premier of Manitoba will sign historic agreements to strengthen American’s energy security by increasing production and use of renewable energy, promoting energy efficiency, and reducing greenhouse gases.

Gov. Pawlenty and Gov. Doyle will be joined in Milwaukee by Gov. M. Michael Rounds of South Dakota, Gov. Rod Blagojevich of Illinois, Gov. Chester J. Culver of Iowa, Premier Gary Doer of Manitoba and Gov. Jennifer Granholm of Michigan.

The Midwestern governors will take actions that build on other regional efforts across the county. In 2003, California, Oregon and Washington created the West Coast Global Warming Initiative; in 2006, Arizona and New Mexico launched the Southwest Climate Change Initiative; and in February of 2007, Arizona, California, New Mexico, Oregon and Washington launched the Western Regional Climate Action Initiative.
