Minnesota Families USA released a report Tuesday saying Minnesota could get around $766 million if Congress reauthorizes $50 billion in new money for the State Children's Health Insurance Program.
It covers kids with families who make too much to qualify for Medicaid but can't afford other health insurance. The program's authorization expires on Sept. 30.
"The stakes are high for Minnesota's children, especially the 86,154 who are currently uninsured," said Ron Pollack, executive director of Families USA, a nonprofit organization that works on health care issues for consumers.
The report is based on data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, and predictions were based on the current state-by-state allocation formula and Medicaid expenditures for children.
