Despite Governor’s Roadblocks, Minnesota Is Back on the Road to Improving Roads, Bridges and TransitSt. Paul, MN (February 25, 2008) After the Minnesota House of Representatives today overrode Governor Pawlenty’s veto of the comprehensive transportation-finance bill, the Minnesota DFL Party released the following statement from Chair Brian Melendez:
“With today’s override of Governor Pawlenty’s veto, Minnesotans can finally regain some confidence that our state is back on the road to rebuilding our crumbling roads and bridges, reducing gridlock, and improving public transit.
“Minnesotans can thank the united leadership of DFL majority for ensuring that our state moves forward on transportation, not leaving the bills and the consequences to future generations.
“The DFL Legislature’s bold leadership stands in stark contrast to Governor Pawlenty who, time after time, squandered the opportunity for real leadership on the transportation challenges we face as a state. Today, the Legislature stepped up and filled the void left by Pawlenty’s all-talk, do-nothing record — and showed that Pawlenty’s pursuit of his national ambitions has made him irrelevant to getting things done for Minnesota and for Minnesotans.”
