MN DEMS VOTE FOR LEGLISLATION ON STEM CELL RESEARCH
01/11/2007
ST. PAUL (1/11/07) – Today, House Democrats voted to pass legislation expanding federal funding for stem-cell research. The U.S. House and Senate both passed similar legislation last term, which received President Bush’s only veto. Today’s bill passed by 253 – 174.
"Democrats have listened to the medical community and to the American people. And they have once again moved to implement this important legislation," Minnesota DFL Chair Brian Melendez said. "Expanding federal funding for stem-cell research can open the door to life-saving treatments.
"For the thousands of Americans living with Alzheimer’s, diabetes, spinal cord injuries and other diseases and disabilities, this bill offers the hope that our government will foster the environment where medical professionals can work towards a cure."
