MN Senate gives push to bill banning fees on gift cards

Retail store gift cards could not carry expiration dates or service fees under a bill that won preliminary approval Friday from the state Senate.
Senate sponsor Katie Sieben, DFL-Newport, said the measure would provide needed protection for consumers who "want to get their money's worth" when they buy gift cards for friends or relatives. Too often, she said, expiration dates and late fees that aren't prominently disclosed eat into the value of the cards.
