More Mid-East War Clouds

07/28/2007

Last week al Maliki told the Iraqi people to arm themselves and that the Iraqi government, military, and police could not protect them.

We have also been reporting that the U.S. government is arming Sunni’s to join us in fighting insurgents.

This weekend there is a huge arms bazaar in Dubai.

This morning I posted a story that the U.S. is selling arms to Saudi Arabia.

This afternoon I posted a story that the Saudi's are getting ready to go to war against Iran. The article said that Chaney wants to open a third front against Iran and that the Saudi’s will provide the manpower with a Sunni force attacking Shiite Iranians.

It also said that Chaney is convinced that Iran is going to use nukes against Israel and so Iran must go. The article also said that Jordan is gearing up for sectarian war.

I sure hope the author is wrong on all counts.

Another story posted said that Gen. Petraeus and al Maliki are feuding and that al Maliki wants Gen. Petraeus out of Iraq. Ambassador Crocker is trying to downplay the feud.

We know that the Sunni's walked out of the Iraqi cabinet last week and that the Iraqi government is all but failed now. If that government collapses the governing of Iraq reverts to us as the occupation power.

All signs are that the surge isn't the issue anymore - civil war and sectarian war is the issue and it’s could spread quickly.

The mid-east is coming apart at the seams and Bush / Chaney are powerless to stop it and they seem to not want to. That in itself is alarming.

This may cause enough concern in the Senate to break the stalemate over troop withdrawal from Iraq. GOP Senators have to live with this mess not just as politicians but also as citizens. Allowing our troops to walk into a cross-fire from massive civil and sectarian war in the mid-east is flat wrong.

Bush / Chaney could get a visit from the GOP Party requesting their resignation soon. We’ll soon know in the next three or so weeks if that will happen or not.

When we come out of Iraq because of warring nations it won't be a slow withdrawal and an orderly extraction -- it'll be a mad scramble to get the hell out of there pronto. A rear guard will have to protect the main force and we will leave a lot behind. Besides, who do we kill -- Sunni’s or Shiites? We really have no beef with either sect.

We won't be running from insurgents, we'll be running from widespread Arab conflict. We have two fronts now, one in Afghanistan and one in Iraq. A third front against Iran would be a big mess.

Once inter-tribal warfare breaks out and civil war spreads across the mid-east we don't belong there.

I have a hunch that the next few weeks are going to prove quite unsettling.

What impact it will have on Israel and Palestine is unknown.

As the great historian William Manchester has said: "When nations buy arms it's because they intend to use them. ("The Arms of Krupp, by William Manchester")

As far as the election goes - Democrats have won it if we don't do anything stupid and if Bush doesn't get us into WWIII or try to take over our country with some sort of martial law.

Please pray for America and for the Iraq people and all innocent people caught up in this mess.

To those Americans who feel that we should have gone to war in Iraq we ask you to look at the mess it has created and at what expense in casualties, loss of life, national treasure, and the future of America that we have paid to get rid of Saddam. There were other options open to us. Please do not support further killing over oil.
