NEW POLL GOOD NEWS FOR DFL TICKET

08/28/2006

ST. PAUL (8/28/06) – The latest poll from the conservative Wall Street Journal shows the DFL-endorsed candidates for U.S. Senate and Governor, prosecutor Amy Klobuchar and Attorney General Mike Hatch, leading their opponents and in strong positions heading into the home stretch of the campaign.

“Both of these races are going to be tight,” Minnesota DFL Chair Brian Melendez said. “It’s good to see the top of our ticket in a strong position to win in November, but we’re facing opponents with massive war chests financed by big special interests. It’s going to take a grassroots effort on the ground to push our candidates over the top on November 7. Fortunately, Minnesotans have Amy Klobuchar and Mike Hatch at the top of the ticket to inspire them.”

The results of the Wall Street Journal/Zogby International poll:

U.S. Senate

Klobuchar 49.9%

Kennedy 42.3

Governor

Hatch 43.1

Pawlenty 40.6

“When our message gets out, we win,” Melendez said. “When voters see that DFL candidates are addressing the issues most important to them – education, health care, transportation, jobs, tax fairness and clean air and water – they respond positively. We have thousands of volunteers across the state working to get that message of opportunity out. Our candidates have put themselves in strong positions. Now, we need to pound the pavement and get the job done.”
