Nuclear Disarmament Revisited

Paul Munnis
There is no doubt in my mind now that nuclear non-proliferation is a lost cause. The world is a much more dangerous place because of it.
The Bush Administration approach seems to be to give North Korea the hairy eyeball, to seek to bomb Iran off the earth, and to look away from all of other nations having nuclear arms.
This is lousy foreign policy and is irresponsible leadership.
When we meditate about the problem and think about solutions the only solution that I can come up with is to create a hyper-political international body, such as the UN (after reforming it), and putting in place a nuclear disarmament demand for every nation with the bomb.
The U.S., Russia, India, China, Pakistan, India, and others will have to publicly disassemble their nuclear arms.
The fissionable material will have to go into an international stockpile.
Production facilities for nuclear bomb grade material will have to be disassembled and monitored.
Any attempt to reconstitute nuclear weapons must result in the UN taking the rogue nation out.
An ability to create nuclear energy plants and loans to enable these facilities must be made available to all nations in this era of energy extortion.
It’s as simple and as complex as that.
