Nursing homes win federal grants

Minnesota will get $12.5 million in federal money for upgrading veterans homes in Hastings and Silver Bay, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs announced Tuesday.

Veterans Affairs Secretary R. James Nicholson announced the award at a news conference with Gov. Tim Pawlenty and other state leaders.

Most of the money will go to reimburse the state for remodeling costs in Hastings. About $1.8 million was designated for a roof project in Silver Bay.
