One energy bill, coming up!

09/14/2007

Dear Editor,

Two Bills.

One Vision.

A clean, strong
energy bill is possible -
with your help.

Write your lawmakers today.

With Congress back from summer recess, they're looking to wrap up some unfinished business. And one of the most critical, long-awaited environmental policies is on deck!

If a clean energy bill gets through conference - and onto the president's desk - we have the best chance in over a decade at upping our efficiency, using more renewable fuels, and curbing global warming.

We can't afford to waste this opportunity. Will you help?

Write your Senators and Representatives today - ask them to support final passage of a strong energy bill.

Last spring, at long last, the House and Senate both passed energy bills. Each contains good provisions, but neither one is complete. Now, as lawmakers meet to negotiate, it's vital that they preserve the forward-looking measures that protect our country - and the planet.

What provisions are we fighting to keep intact?

Clean electricity. The House bill requires utilities to generate 15% of their power from clean, renewable energy sources like wind and solar by 2020.
Efficient vehicles. The Senate bill increases the average mileage of cars and trucks to 35 miles per gallon by 2020.

Taxes for Big Oil. The House bill reduces some of the giant tax breaks now enjoyed by the oil and gas industries, and instead creates incentives for renewable energy.
As lawmakers seek to merge these two bills, they need to know we're watching closely!

Don't wait to send a message to your Senators and Representative.

Together, we can help ensure the strongest, cleanest energy bill possible. This is our chance to: reduce our reliance on dangerous fossil fuels, save billions of dollars on electricity and gas, and combat global warming.

Thank you for your time and commitment.

Sincerely,
