Pawlenty has until June 1 to act on tax bill

05/23/2007

(AP) -- Gov. Tim Pawlenty will get a little more time to decide whether to veto the Legislature's tax bill.

Spokesman Brian McClung said Wednesday that the tax package won't land on Pawlenty's desk until Tuesday, giving him until June 1 to act. The Republican governor has threatened to strike down the whole bill because it would require budget forecasters to factor in inflation spending.

The Office of the Revisor of Statutes is expected to send Pawlenty budget bills for health and welfare programs and state agency operations on Thursday. His deadline for those bills would be midnight on Monday, the Memorial Day holiday.
