Pre-convention screening, & form to fill out

Afternoon all,

Friday 21st

I know this is a lot of information, but it's important and we have many new people involved this year.

People wanting to run for positions in the Olmsted County DFL ( chair, associate chair, treasurer, secretary, communications officer, affirmative action officer, directors -13, and State Central Committee (SCC) delegates -5 and alternates -7) will be elected at the county convention next Saturday, March 29th at Century High School. Persons wanting to run for these positions should interview with the screening/nominations committee before the Convention (more info below).

This IS NOT screening for people who want to be delegates to the 1st CD and State DFL conventions (again, more info below).


Descriptions of the duties/responsibilities of county party officers can be found in Article V., section 2 of the Constitution of the Olmsted County Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party (adopted and updated at the March 2006 county convention. I believe this is available on our web site. If not i'll try get there by next week.

The State Central Committee (SCC) delegates and alternates are our representatives to the meetings of the MN State DFL party (which is the governing body of the state party between the MN State DFL Conventions held every 2 years. SCC delegates are expected to go to 3 or 4 meetings per year held at different locations around the state. [Note: these 7 SCC delegates and alternates are not to be confused with the 27 delegates and alternates we will elect from walking sub-caucuses at next weekend's county convention, who will go on to represent us at the 1st District DFL Convention (Saturday April 12 at Albert Lea, MN) and the State DFL Convention (June 6th to 8th, here in Rochester).]

All of the above mentioned Olmsted County DFL officers serve for 2 years until the next Olmsted County Convention in March of 2010.


Below find a copy of the screening form to be filled out and brought with you to the screening/nominations committee interview next week. Copies of the form are also available at the DFL office and I will try get it available on our Olmsted Co DFL web site also. You should be able to high-light the form below, copy, and print it.


The 10 member screening/nomination committee will screen candidates for the above mentioned county party positions at 3 times prior to our Saturday Olmsted Convention:

Thursday 27th, 7:30 to 9 PM at the new DFL office (401 16th Ave NW, Rochester)

Friday 28th, 7:30 to 9 PM also at the DFL office

Saturday 29th, 8 to 9:30 AM at Century High School (before the convention begins at 10 AM)

Please note that it is going to be EXTREMELY busy Saturday morning before the Convention (we have over 900 delegates and alternates that were elected at the caucuses to this convention and registration is going to take awhile). Come early whether you are screening or just attending the Convention.

Also please consider screening either Thursday or Friday night at the office if it is possible for you - this will reduce Saturday's workload for everyone.
Screening should not take too long, but please be patient as this is impossible to schedule so it is first come first serve.
