President Bush orders federal aid for Minneapolis bridge collapse

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - President Bush has declared an emergency in Minnesota related to the Minneapolis bridge collapse and ordered federal aid to supplement state and local money.
The president authorized the Federal Emergency Management Agency to coordinate all disaster relief efforts aimed at alleviating the hardship and suffering caused by the bridge collapse. He also authorized FEMA to provide appropriate assistance to protect property and public health and safety in Hennepin County.
Under the order, the federal government will pay for 75% of the emergency protective measures.
