As I have recovered from my recent sickness hospitalization many of you have sent personal wishes and prayers for my return to health and to service. Thank you.

Yesterday I was discharged and sent back home where I will continue to work to improve my health and well-being in the months to come.

Sometimes people wonder if prayer helps, especially the prayers of people who hardly even know you. I am witness that it does help, it does make a difference, and it does make the recipient know that others are kind, loving, and generous in their well wishes.

This ethos of generosity of spirit marks Democrats and sets them aside from the selfish herd of mankind. It is a sense that what is good for people down on their luck is good for all of us. It puts self interest secondary to the common good and it creates social, medical, and economic safety nets for people.

That is why I am proud to be a Democrat and in your loving company.
