Rising Energy Prices Push Up March Inflation Rate

Rising energy prices helped push the overall inflation rate last month to the highest rate in nearly a year, but gains excluding food and energy, which the Federal Reserve carefully monitors, slowed.
The Labor Department said this morning that the consumer price index rose 0.6 percent in March, the fastest monthly increase since last April. By themselves, energy prices jumped 5.8 percent last month.
