Chair SD 30

(Rochester, MN) -- Senate District 30 held their Endorsing Convention, Saturday, April 19 at the IBEW Union Hall. We had a good turn out in spite of the weather and other activities. Thank you to all of you that took your time to be there and those of you that couldn't make it please know you were missed. We also thank the guest that came and helped make our convention a success.

Tina Liebling, representing 30a and Andy Welti, representing
30b was endorsed unanimously to serve SD 30 in the 2008 elections in November.

Tina and Andy both gave the convention insight to their lives serving as our reprehensive and the wall/struggles that are encountered trying to get things done. They want to return to the legislature to continue their work, but also emphasize the importance of the house of representative gaining at least 5 more seats. We are very lucky to have the hard working representatives we have and we have to make sure we return them in November.

SD 30 Senator Ann Lynch stopped by and gave her encouragement for all of us to work hard and make sure we re-elect Tina and Andy.

Leah Solo was present and thank SD 30 for all the work that has been done for Congressman Walz and asked us to continue to be available to help re-elect Congressman Walz this fall.

Sarah Dueval, 1st CD Field Director, updated us regarding training for precinct chairs for the senate districts and counties. Joe Mayer spoke on behalf of Jack Nelson-Pallmeyer, candidate for U.S. Senate, and was elegant with the reasons that Jack should be the choice to run against Norm Coleman this fall.

Thomasine Franken, daughter of Al Franken, spoke on behalf of her father, pointing out the reason he should be the one to face Coleman this fall and asked the delegates to vote for Franken at the State Convention. We also were honored by the presents of Franken's son, Joe, who was here from New York.

A very special surprise was the drop in visit by Mayor R T Rybek, from Minneapolis, who came to talk to the convention regarding Barak Obama's candidacy for President. He was very passionate regarding Obama and the reason he should be the next President of the United States.

After all this excitement from our representatives and candidates the convention returned to the regular order of business.

Officers elected for 2008 - 2009 were: Chair, Katherine Speer Co-Chair, Phil Castovinch Secretary, Lonna Stork Treasure, Mary Jones Affirmative Action, Janet Kruger

The convention also voted to move money to the campaign of Liebling $300, Welti $300, Lynch, $150, 1st CD $100. They also directed that SD 30 do more fund raising and that the officers meet in early October and determine how the money should be allocated by Oct. 15.

Thank you to the newly elected officers and to the convention attendees. We look forward to all of us working hard to make this a great election year for Democrats. Everyone help is needed. Any suggestions or comments may be directed to me. 507-876-2900 or
