Sen. Hottinger Not Running for Re-election

A major announcement about his political future came this morning from state senator John Hottinger. “I’m here to announce that I’m not going to be running for re-election in 2006”. The Saint Peter attorney has served south central Minnesota in the state senate for the past 15 years. Hottinger was first elected to the state senate in 1990. He says this doesn’t mean he’s going to fade from the public spotlight. “Now I’m not stepping out of the political or policy arena, I’m just going to assume a different role. I don’t know precisely what that role is going to be, I have another year to serve, but I’m going to continue to be engaged in the kind of issues that I’ve cared about”.  Hottinger says announcing his plans this early allows enough time for others to decide if they want to run.
