Sen. Lynch appointed to the Committee on Regent Nominations
02/20/2007
State Senator Ann Lynch (DFL-Rochester) was recently appointed to the Joint Legislative Committee on Regent Nominations that will consider the governor’s slate of University of Minnesota regent nominees. The committee consists of 20 appointed members, half from the Senate and half from the House.
Sen. Lynch said she is honored to serve on the regent nominating committee, given the expansion of higher education opportunities offered at the University of Minnesota, Rochester.
The regents are elected by the Legislature to govern the University of Minnesota. Eight members represent the state’s congressional districts, and four members are elected at large, including one student at-large member. All members serve six-year terms that are staggered so that four regent positions come up for appointment every two years.
The regent nominating committee must meet by Feb. 28 to consider nominees for four open regent seats: one in the 5th Congressional District, two at-large, and one student at-large.
