Coleman says he’ll seek re-electionU.S. Sen. Norm Coleman said Monday that he plans to seek re-election in 2008 and doesn’t have any interest in being on a presidential ticket.
“I haven’t made the official announcement, but I am interested in continuing to serve the people of Minnesota,” Coleman, R-Minn., said on Minnesota Public Radio’s “Midday” program.
“I think I’ve got the best job in America. I represent the best state in America, and I just hope that folks will consider giving me the opportunity to keep doing it. So, no, let’s rule out any of those ‘higher ambitions.’ “
Coleman, a first-term senator, has fueled speculation about a bid for higher office with his focus on national issues and his active fundraising on behalf of GOP colleagues. And last week, he spoke to the Southern Republican Leadership Conference along with several potential Republican presidential candidates.
