Session drags on for tired Minnesota politicos

Weary members of the Minnesota House returned to the State Capitol on Wednesday after enduring a 17-hour Tuesday session that ended at 5:20 a.m. Ahead of them loomed another marathon debate over school funding and gay rights. "We didn't raise our per diem enough for this," joked Rep. Jim Abeler, R-Anoka, as his colleagues droned on through the 100 amendments offered to the K-12 education funding bill, which wasn't expected to pass until the wee hours today. Then the House was scheduled to move on to the state government finance bill, with prospects of argument over offering health benefits for same-sex domestic partners of state employees. At least that's an issue of widespread interest.
