WHAT THE BILL SAYS
• Provisional licensees could transport no more than one nonrelative under the age of 20 for the first six months and no more than three for the second six months.
• They could not drive between midnight and 5 a.m. except for a school event or a job or if accompanied by a licensed driver at least 25 years old.
Intervening in the age-old war of independence between teenagers and their parents, a state legislator who has raised five children is pushing for new legal restrictions on many young drivers, including a midnight curfew for taking the wheel.
Sen. Tom Neuville, R-Northfield, last week won preliminary Senate approval for his bill to set limits on young drivers, including how many peers they may have in their car while driving on public thoroughfares.
