Showdown looms over smoking ban

A bill that would outlaw smoking in most public places in Minnesota, including bars and restaurants, cleared its last House committee hurdle Monday and is probably headed to a floor vote, possibly by next week.

The House version, which passed the Finance Committee 24-14, contains amendments that differ markedly from a Senate version that has already passed.
