Simply Incredible

We recall stories that we heard as children about people who lied and the negative effects that came from those lies. One such deals with a child who lied so often that she lost credibility with people and when a real problem came up and she told people about it they just discounted her story. It is from such things that words are born and the word here is “incredible.”
It is a word that typifies our 43rd President of the United States. He has lied so often to the American people that his credibility is low. Even when he is forced to talk about his lies he lies and uses the word “spin,” as a synonym for “lie.” It is not a valid synonym for that word but rather for the word “manipulate.”
Consider his latest story about how terrorism and al Qaeda are on the rise and threaten to attack American soil. Coming as it does on the eve of an all night debate in the Senate about the Iraqi War we find it a bit incredible.
Bin Laden has not been seen in nearly six years. For a world leader of terrorism he sure has a low profile, perhaps real low as in “dead.” Bush could have been lying about that too. After all one needs a bogeyman to sustain wars. From time to time we see press releases from the Administration that al Qaeda is building up training camps. If they know that to be true why aren’t they taking them out? It seems bogus to me.
Last week Mr. Bush put out a report card concerning the Iraqi Government and the checkpoints or milestones they were tasked with. Bush lied and gave them better ratings than they deserve according to critics in a position to act as witnesses. He lied again.
We don’t know if we will be hit by terrorism again or not. The intelligence does not seem that much better since the recent war games for a post-war Iraq had to use possibilities rather than intelligence reports to set up the war games scenarios.
All we can say is that we need to keep our heads up and when things seem strange to challenge them. We also need to implement the 9/11 Commission Recommendations and to fund them but the guy who says that we are at risk from terrorism is threatening to veto the security legislation. Something smells here and the situation is thus incredible.
The best thing that Bush and Chaney can do now is to follow or get out of the way. Failing those two options they should resign. We need to get credible people building credible plans and taking credible actions to improve our national safety. We need that done based on reality and not thru lies, manipulation, and posturing.
Let’s have our Iraq debate avoiding lies from Bush and let’s watch out for trouble even as we try to figure how to isolate the Bush Administration from telling more lies and causing more death and destruction in the mid-east.
