Social Security
03/28/2005
I have uploaded a PDF file from Citizens For Tax Justice (CTJ). CTJ
reports that the US Senate has passed a bill that would repeal a 1993
law taxing Social Security benefits on high income persons. The main
beneficiaries of the repeal are. of course, the wealthy. The tax
savings from the 1993 law went to shore up Medicare. If the bill
becomes law, therefore, people who are well-off will be better off and
Medicare will be less well off.
Senator Dayton voted against the bill and deserves a letter of
appreciation. Senator Coleman voted for the bill and needs to be
reminded in no uncertain terms that he is not acting in the best
interests of his constituents.
