This is a way to make my small contribution triple.  Give if you can.  The DCCC is backing Walz now.
Great way to unseat Gutknecht.  Tim Penny says Gus stands for Gutknecht Un Seated.  Yeah!!!!

Dear Katherine,

I think it’s safe to say that we’ve all had enough. Enough of the broken promises. Enough of the failed leadership. Enough of the can’t-do, won’t-do, won’t-even-try style of governance.

Now is our time to make our mark on history. The Republicans have had their chance to lead—and they have failed. We have had enough! It’s time for a Democratic majority, and if all of us do not step up and do everything we can to take it, we will have only ourselves to blame.

My goal—and your goal—in these last weeks of the election is to make sure that the Democrats can compete financially with the Republicans’ final onslaught of negative ads. My fellow Chicagoan, Rahm Emanuel, chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) told me that last week alone, the Republican counterpart, the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) put in close to $10 million in negative attacks ads against Democratic House candidates. That is a staggering amount of money for our candidates to compete against.

But they can compete, as long as we all do our part to help. I want to thank you for your support earlier this year. It helped put our Democratic House candidates in the best position to win in over a decade. We cannot let up now. We have just 15 days to give the American people the leadership they are looking for. If you contribute once again today, Democratic House members will match your contribution three-to-one, giving your gift four times the impact.

This election is critical.

In the past week, I have been in 15 cities campaigning for Democratic candidates and everywhere I travel I get a sense the American people are desperate for leadership and are longing for direction, for concrete solutions to the problems that they’re confronting every day.

They want to believe again. And they are starting to pay attention to this election and see through the spin. And, when the American people pay attention, Democrats win. I know that we can do this and that we can take our country in a new direction, but only if every one of us gets involved—with our time, our energy, and yes, our wallets. Only then will we have a Democratic majority in Congress.

There is a set of values that have embodied themselves in the Democratic Party. We have a stake in each other and we have a mutual responsibility to each other. We want to make sure that every child succeeds, that the most vulnerable among us are cared for.

Don’t let anyone tell you we don’t know what we stand for and don’t doubt it yourselves. We know who we are. And in the end, we know that it isn’t enough to just say that you’ve had enough.

Our party is the party of opportunity. We are the party that will guarantee every American an affordable, world-class education. We are the party of affordable, accessible health care for all Americans. We are the party of innovation and discovery. We are the party of open, honest government that believes that in this democracy, influence and access should begin and end with the power of the ballot.

And in a world where evil lurks and terrorists plot, we are the party that will conduct a smart foreign policy that matches the might of our military with the power of our diplomacy. And when we do go to war, let us always be honest with the American people about why we are there and how we will win.

If we do all this, if we can be trusted to lead, this will not be a Democratic agenda, it will be an American agenda. Because in the end, we may be proud Democrats, but we are prouder Americans.

I know you have stood with the DCCC this past year and your support has made a huge impact in races across the country. Today, I am asking you to give again, because the stakes are so high.

Thanks for all you do.

Sincerely,

Barack Obama
U.S. Senator from Illinois

P.S. Let me tell you, the easiest thing in the world is to do nothing at all. To turn off the TV, put down the paper, and walk away from the stories about Iraq or Darfur or poverty or violence or joblessness or hopelessness. To go about our busy lives, wishing these problems away and expecting someone else to do it.

But I hope you don’t do what’s easy. I hope you do what’s hard. I hope you contribute to a new direction in America by supporting the DCCC’s critical work to elect a Democratic House majority in 2006.
