Tell Congress to support HR 676 (Single Payer)
04/25/2007
Rep. Conyers (D, MI) has introduced HR676, which would bring about
Single Payer universal medical coverage. This is NOT socialized medicine
and would NOT limit your choice of doctors. In fact, given the "in
network" restrictions of most private health plans, Single Payer
(Medicare for All) would greatly EXPAND your choices of providers.
Almost 30% of your healthcare dollar is spent on administration and
paperwork caused by the insurance industry, and most of this is an
effort to legally cheat you out of coverage you've paid for and deserve.
The amount spent on paperwork by Medicare is much less. Single payer is
the system used in most other industrialized societies, where health
care outcomes are just as good as in the US at lower cost.
Do not be fooled by universal health care in the form of mandatory
private coverage as implemented by Mitt Romney in Massachusetts or
Arnold Schwarzeneger in California. Such schemes do little to fix our
broken system or reduce administrative costs.
Conyers' bill is the real deal. Tell your Reps. to cosponsor and Sens.
to introduce equivalent bills.
