The Flip Side of Political Division

03/10/2006

Paul Munnis

Both Mr. Bush and Mr. Rove need to meditate awhile on the politics of hate and division their signature method of governing.

After five years of this being the dominant and operative political method of the Bush Administration the flip side of the coin is now manifesting itself.

When the GOP is split, where do those who were split go off to? Answer: The Democratic Party, where they are greeted as fellow Americans who want America to work well and not as political POW’s or “the enemy.”

When Veterans are split, where to they gravitate towards? They go to the Party that will champion them, the Democrats.

When Protestants and Catholics, and Moslems are split out because of their religious beliefs and affronts to their conscience where do they go to? They find a Party that is neutral and will not intimidate them over their religious belief and they seek a Party that believes in the ‘Separation of Church and State.’

The same can be said over splitting States and workers, and parents, and children, and educators, and killing off the programs that people need to survive. Where do these people go to? They seek a Party that seems sane and supportive of their needs.

And so it goes, group after group is split off, the GOP is whittled down, and now, three years before the end of his second term, Mr. Bush has eaten his children. His Party is consumed. The GOP has been cannibalized. They are no longer in the majority, they no longer have a mandate, people have learned the tactics that were used to divide them and they are sickened at the way in which they have been used and abused.

The remaining hostages that were held seem glad to be free at last. Bush has used up his political capital and now he is broke and is no longer a political threat to them. “The Hammer” is fighting for his political life. Mr. Frist is worried about the coming SEC investigation and findings. The fellow travelers of Jack Abramoff are in career trouble while people like “Scooter” Libby, the instruments of the Bush Administrations arm of intimidation, are about to stand trial.

You can feel the fear of Mr. Bush and his intimidating Administration leaving our land and it feels good. Already the resignations have begun from his Administration. Soon there will only a few left and the janitor. Indeed who would want to work for the Bush Administration? It is not a resume builder.

It’s not over with yet. There is plenty more yet to come. The U.S. government has not yet dealt with Halliburton. Remember, these people have profiteered from un-bid government contracts awarded by the GOP in violation of the law and both Mr. Bush and Mr. Chaney have large amounts of stock in Halliburton in a so called “blind trust.” They are getting very rich over these un-bid contract awards while they are in office.

Then there are those who were abused, tortured, and imprisoned. As Mr. Bush weakens and finally leaves office, they will be waiting for a piece of him at the White House gates. The legal machinery is already getting oiled and primed for prosecution of crimes against humanity as the Human Rights organizations and others build their court cases.

Anyone who bakes knows what the process of gently folding-in ingredients consists of. That is what has been going on. Mr. Bush and Mr. Rove have split their Party and the splinters have been gently folded into the Democratic Party. The result is approval ratings for Mr. Bush that are down around his ankles and an increase in the strength of the Democratic Party – the Bush propaganda machine not withstanding. Folding has increased the Democratic Party volume and substance. Splitting has left the injured as no longer undecided voters. They are very decided. We can measure it by their Party contributions.

Mr. Bush, being something of a maverick, and Mr. Rove, seeking to please his boss, just keep it up and the Democrats keep strengthening as a result. Many of the candidates running for election on the Democratic ticket in 2006 are former GOP members who were loyal and supportive until it came time to examine their conscience and decide what to do. Many were pleased to be welcomed with open arms by those who they thought to be the enemy – the Democrats. Instead these Democrats just turned out to be fellow Americans who are also trying to follow their conscience. When folded together Americans work together very well.

Because of their tactics Mr. Bush and Mr. Rove have become highly reviled and there are many who hope Mr. Bush steps down and takes Mr. Rove with him. In fact, it could happen, Mr. Bush may be forced to resign before the 2008 elections.

In the meantime the newly minted Democratic Party has evolved to a centrist Party and is beginning to be able to shift from defense to offense and it’s just in time for the 2006 elections.

What goes around comes around and we are all pleased to see a weak president made of G.W. Bush. When he stood up and complained today that he is concerned that the Ports deal sends the wrong signal he didn’t know how right he was. It is a signal that he is now done for. Today was Mr. Bush’s first day as a Lame Duck president.

The nice part is that Mr. Bush has been virtually impeached, not by Congress, but by the very voters who put him into office in the first place.
