The GOP Dilemma

Even as GOP strategists look at the political mess that they have on their hands they are beginning to understand why many think there is a good chance that the GOP Party will become extinct and go the way of the Whigs.
Listening to a gaggle of GOP geese is a surreal experience for they don’t seem to understand that they are on record for their political misdeeds and that their record will be shown to the public in the coming races. They don’t seem to get it that the public has had a hard time restraining themselves to not riot and demonstrate against them over these last eight years. They don’t understand that people feel that people like Tom DeLay are just plain disgusting.
They wonder that Evangelical Christians are turning against them. There is nothing to wonder at. In the end Christians have to face themselves in the mirror and look at what they have permitted to be done in their name. They have been used, abused, and manipulated and they know it and they don’t want that anymore. They want to join in building America and not in tearing it down. All but a few feel that way -- those who have co-opted the evangelical movement are the exceptions. The Evangelic Christian Movement is not full of stupid people -- they will clean their own house. They have already begun the task.
As we look at comments repudiated to have been made in the GOP Caucus we are seeing statements to the effect that political gimmicks can be used to change the dynamics of this coming 2008 election. Example of this are: “Change the message,” and “Rebrand the Party.”
Nonsense! The GOP Party is on record, the candidates are on record, and there is no denial that the GOP has painted itself into a corner. This is not a mere misbehavior either. They have shown the American public what they are made of and the result is abhorrent to 70% of their fellow Americans. The GOP is as a cancer on the body politic and must be removed.
The track record of the GOP is just awful. They have had total control of Congress, total control of the White House, stuffed the Courts with their judges, and taken control of every government agency in the U.S. Did they accomplish anything useful with their power? No!
How did they use their power?
They used our military to make an illegal invasion of Iraq, to depose the Iraqi government, they illegally occupied Iraq, and they caused a civil war in Iraq. They have avoided every opportunity to end the Iraq war with the result of a three trillion dollar deficit to the United States that has destroyed our economy, set off a wild round of inflation, debased our currency, and induced recession. What’s more many are proud of that record.
They have given themselves an unfair tax-break. They have stolen everything they can get their hands on. They have recruited companies to give donations to them in return for political favor that permits more scamming of the American public.
They have attacked the U.S. Constitution and our Bill of Rights. The have attacked our legal system and they have run roughshod over our civil rights and our civil liberties. In a total mockery of the law they have chosen not to follow it whenever it suited them.
They have messed up our school system and destroyed our economy. And this is only a partial list of the mess they have made of our government.
As a result, they have to go. Not one or two of them, but the whole rotten lot. Not just go for awhile – but go for good.
This election permits us to get rid of some of the GOP found in the Senate; all of them found in the Congress, and we can clean up the White House and the Agencies. The leftovers are those GOP Senators not up for re-election and the judges.
The result is a huge house cleaning chore for the incoming Democrats. Much of our problems go deep into the Departments and Agencies and they too need to be cleaned up. As an example the Justice Department needs to be swept clean of people who advocate for torture, abuse, and illegal imprisonment, the loss of the right to a fair trial, and the right to access of evidence being used against a person being held against their will. The mess at Guantanamo Bay is a disgrace to all who have advocated for it.
And as we have said, this is just a partial list of the mess left by the GOP.
Now these guys want to be returned to Congress to do their dirty work and they think that gimmicks will get them there. No Way!
The GOP needs a new lapel pin, one that shows a gravestone engraved with:
R.I.P
G.O.P.
And for most Democrats their message to the GOP is “Good Riddance.”
