The U.S. Economy – What’s Next?

04/29/2007

Paul Munnis

The Levy Economics Institute of Bard College at Red Hook, NY, has completed a series of projections designed to bracket the possibilities ahead for the U.S. Economy. In a policy paper they pose the question: “What Lies Ahead For The U.S. Economy,” and then proceed to identify those possibilities.

At a time when the housing and mortgage sector is collapsing, when Fannie Mae is being sold, when student loans are in heavy default, when stealth inflation is nibbling away wealth, when consumer confidence is low, when household savings are low and household debt is high, when mortgage defaults have increased and when the Dow Jones Stock Average is reaching new heights, when American companies have slowed and stopped their investment in America and especially when Mr. Bush has devalued the American dollar by 50% and gasoline prices are zooming, then we need someway to view what is going on in perspective and figure out what’s next. The Levy Institute has given us a method to do so. It is superior to listening to false stories planted by the Bushies on how rosy the economy is under GOP management.

Many news sites take the approach that their readers only can read at an eighth grade level and can’t be bothered with reading detail, yet our experience is that education levels in Rochester and in this area of Minnesota are high and that people can easily deal with these sorts of materials. We will not talk down to our readers.

Here is the link to their site with their material in Adobe (pdf format).
