They Vote, We Score: The 2005 National Environmental Scorecard

Dear Editor,

Support our Volunteers on the Ground!

This weekend, LCV staff and volunteers will fan out across neighborhoods in key states across the U.S. to tell others about how their elected officials voted on these important environmental issues during the first session of the 109th Congress.

Please support our volunteers with a contribution

From renewable energy and fuel economy, to Arctic Refuge drilling and global warming, the first session of the 109th Congress faced many votes on key environmental issues. More times than not, our core environmental and public health laws were under relentless attack.

I am pleased to announce the release of LCV’s 2005 National Environmental Scorecard. You will now be able to see how your elected officials scored on these important environmental issues.

This year’s Scorecard rollout will be the most extensive in our 35 years, with national coverage on C-SPAN, press events across the country, and neighborhood canvasses to tell others how their representatives scored on the environment. But none of this would be possible without people like you.

Support LCV’s work and find out how your delegation scored.

The National Environmental Scorecard has been the definitive source for Americans to learn where their legislators truly stand on environmental issues. In a politically charged atmosphere where even George W. Bush is compelled to admit America’s “addiction to oil” (only to backpedal the very next day), the Scorecard stands as an important tool to separate the rhetoric from reality.

The production of this valuable resource wouldn’t be possible without your support.

But the votes documented in the pages of the Scorecard are only part of the story. LCV’s legislative team spent countless hours against formidable opponents defending our clean air, clean water, and environmental heritage.

LCV played a key role in stripping the MTBE liability waiver from the energy bill and defending the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge against relentless attacks from Big Oil and their allies in Congress.  But none of this would be possible without your support.

As LCV continues to act as the political voice of the environmental movement and to educate voters across the country, we rely on the efforts of citizens like you. I urge you to download the Scorecard, share it with your friends and family, and support LCV’s work.

Thank you for all your support.

Sincerely,

Tony Massaro
