Dfl Help Night on The Rochester 19 Picketline
Holiday Inn Express Downtown Rochester
220 S broadway
Rochester, MN 55904
5:30pm on Thursday Feb 8th
The Rochester 19, members of UNITE HERE Local 21, unfairly fired from the Holiday Inn Express downtown, are standing strong after 1 1/2 months, and a week of the coldest weather in years. They were unfairly terminated four days before Christmas and have been engaged in a struggle for justice ever since. As a result of our actions, the new owner is feeling the chill - he's dropped room rates, and business is down. He says this will blow over. We are proving him wrong. Our community will not stand for his behavior. Support is growing not diminishing. We will win this struggle.
Our struggle is much broader than 19 workers in a hotel in downtown Rochester. This is about whether we have a middle class in this country, where people can make an honest living doing honest work. Honest working people in Minnesota understand the stakes.
Rally for the Rochester 19 was a tremendous success thanks to the support of a number of DFL'ers (photo credit goes to Laura Askelin!). We had about 100 people standing up for standards in our community. Peacemakers, Livable Rochester, Working America, Brothers and sisters from just about every union were out there - the Teamster's Truck was a big hit!
