Together we can change this country

Dear Person Whose Help I Need In Order To Win,
We may be 404 days from Election Day, but this race is on.
Don't ask me. Ask Norm Coleman. He's been watching us as we build a powerful grassroots organization. He's been listening as our voice for change grows stronger. And, savvy politician that he is, he's been getting ready to come after us with everything he has.
Want proof? This week, he took out a full-page ad criticizing me for criticizing a Senate resolution that criticized an ad that MoveOn.org took out criticizing Gen. David Petraeus. (I wrote an op-ed for the Star-Tribune about it, which you can read here.)

I think the whole episode is a pretty good example of why we need real change in Washington. Regardless of what you might think of MoveOn.org's ad, it's ridiculous that the Senate spent a whole day arguing over whether or not to officially condemn it - especially when Republicans like Norm Coleman are still filibustering every plan to bring our troops home from Iraq.
But this week was also a good example of what our campaign is all about. I'm not afraid to stand up to Norm Coleman's smear machine, and you shouldn't be, either.
Look, I've been taking these guys on for years, and I've learned a thing or two about how to beat them. It helps that we have the truth on our side. And it also helps that our people power gives us one heck of a megaphone to speak that truth.
I'm writing today because I need you by my side as I continue to stand up to the Bush-Coleman regime and stand up FOR the things we care about - universal health care, a real solution to global warming, an education system that REALLY leaves no child behind, and, of course, an end to this awful war.
The polls show that we're closing in on Norm Coleman. The fundraising numbers we each report after the September 30th deadline will be another chance to show that we're in this to win it. If we finish the quarter strong, you can bet Norm Coleman will hear the message loud and clear: We aren't afraid of your political games, Senator.
So please click here right now - take five minutes away from your busy day and contribute whatever you can. If you can only afford $50 or even $20 and think it wouldn't make a difference, think again.

I need you to continue taking it to Norm Coleman and leading the fight to take our country back. Now is the time - the whole country is waiting to see whether our grassroots momentum can continue as the September 30th deadline hits.
But I'm not worried - because I know we have the truth on our side. And I know I have you standing with me.
Thanks for all you've done and all you'll do.
Al Franken
PS - Don't forget, if you make a contribution of at least $100, we'll send you a set of our State Fair trading cards as a special thank-you. And if you can make a contribution of at least $500, I'll even sign it for you.
PPS - If you can afford the $500, please do it - signing cards is the only way I can get my staff to let me out of call time for even a few seconds this week.
