(Excerpts from Tina’s Op-Ed in Tuesday’s Post Bulletin)
Finally, to ensure the long-term development of our community, the DM&E Railroad controversy must be resolved. You are invited to a town hall meeting at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the Olmsted County Government Center Board Room, to discuss the pending federal loan that would allow expansion of the DM&E through Rochester. I am hosting this event and inviting our federal officials, Congressman Gil Gutknecht, Sen. Mark Dayton, and Sen. Norm Coleman, our local state legislative delegation, and local officials in the coalition opposing the expansion.
The meeting should give residents a chance to find out how our federal officials assess the project and what they are doing on our behalf. My view is that this project poses a serious threat to our city’s economy and quality of life, and deserves the attention of all our state and congressional leaders.
As always, I welcome your input on these or other legislative issues.
