Urgent action…child care needs you!

04/20/2005

I attended the Jobs and Economic Opportunity committee hearing today and heard penetrating testimony from child care advocates about the consequences of continued cuts to child care.

In case you aren’t in the know, right now, the Jobs and EO committee has been asked to cut $72 million from their budget (more than any other House committee), which could result in deeper cuts to child care assistance.

In addition, federal dollars, totaling $18 million, intended for child care have been snatched and inserted into the general fund.  The governor has also proposed a rate freeze (active since 2001) be continued to offset the state deficit.  If you are interested in more information, go to http://www.childcareworks.com

Child care is being wrongly targeted.

Legislators need to hear their constituents say that child care is indispensible to working parents.

Fran Bradley serves on the Jobs and Economic Opportunity committee. He needs to hear from you.  His phone is 800-657-3855 or (651) 296-9249.

Please, if you have time, call him and let me know if you connect.  We’re trying to track action.

Thanks so much.

Take care,
Mia Johnson
