Urgent Request: The Arctic Needs Your Help!

Dear DFL Member and Supporter,
Drilling proponents have always been willing to do or say anything in their reckless pursuit of opening the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge for oil exploration. But this week, they stooped to a new low.
Before dawn this morning, the House of Representatives paved the way to open the Arctic Refuge to drilling by attaching language to a bill that provides much needed funds to support U.S. troops and to aid hurricane victims. This cynical, last-ditch effort shows how desperate they are—and how unpopular Arctic drilling really is.
Our last line of defense in this latest battle to protect our national treasure lies with the Senate—and a vote is expected as early as Wednesday.
Today, I am asking you to take two important steps to counter this latest shameful tactic:
Support LCV’s Efforts!
We still need your help! Your contribution will help us keep the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge free from Big Oil—and help us get 2006 off on the right foot.
Take Action Now!
We need as many constituents as possible to voice opposition to this inappropriate maneuver. Write your Senators today!
In the last week—with the support of our members—LCV played a key role in getting harmful language that would have sold-off millions of acres of public lands to corporations removed from the budget reconciliation bill.
Now we need your help in the battle to save the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.
We’re fending off attacks to our natural heritage—while at the same time we’re starting to lay the foundations for a pro-environment Congress in 2006. Your financial support and letter to your Senators on this urgent matter is crucial if we are to be successful.
Contributions from our members helped LCV staff to log more hours on Capitol Hill and boost opposition to this irresponsible provision. We are working with our coalition partners to get thousands of emails and phone calls in to Senators today and tomorrow—and we will work to hold elected officials accountable for their votes.
But we can’t do it without your help. Now is the time when your contribution and your voice can really make a difference.
Sincerely,
Deb Callahan
