Vivienne Jelatis Has Died

08/16/2005

I’m sorry to say that Connie’s mom, Vivienne Jelatis died this weekend.

As I think you all know, she had many friends in the DFL.  She was the Goodhue County chair for many years, and she organized many, many campaigns in the County for candidates for local, statewide, and national office.  She was a delegate to the national convention that nominated JFK in 1960.

She was repeatedly urged to run for officer herself, but always chose to play a supporting role.  And, of course, she was the First Lady of Red Wing for 17 years.  In recognition, the Goodhue County DFL presented her with the prestigious Eugenie Anderson award for service and leadership.

There are many DFLers in SE Minn., the old 1st Congressional District, and the state office who would like to know of Vi’s passing.  Some might even like to attend her funeral.  That will be at Christ Episcopal Church (in downtown Red Wing, across from the Sheldon Theatre) on Wednesday at 2 p.m.  There is a viewing at the funeral home at 6th and Plum in Red Wing from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday eve.

Incidentally, details will be in Tuesday’s editions of the Post Bulletin, the Strib, and the Pioneer Press.
