Vote YES
11/03/2006
Dear Paul,
DFL leaders are speaking out loudly to support Minnesota’s Transportation Amendment.
DFL Attorney General Mike Hatch:
“I support Minnesota’s Transportation Amendment – it is a common sense plan to use existing transportation taxes for transportation.”

DFL Senate Majority Leader, Dean Johnson:
“I voted for it in committee and I voted for its final passage. Yes, I encourage people to vote yes...I think approving the transportation amendment is the right thing to do.”
(Minnesota Public Radio Midday, November 2, 2006)
DFL House Minority Leader, Margaret Anderson Kelliher:
“I personally support the amendment...This is an opportunity for the legislature to work on a new transportation plan if the amendment passes. It also maximizes federal dollars and helps us bring in more federal money for roads and transit. I hope folks will vote yes. We will do the responsible thing and make sure all funding is balanced.”

Why do these leaders support Minnesota’s Transportation Amendment? Having a strong transportation system is a critical part of maintaining the vitality of our communities and our state. And, we can take a significant step forward on transportation without harming schools or health care. The amendment will put $60 million each year over the next five years to transportation. Based on the last fifteen years of state revenue growth, that’s one dime out of every dollar of new revenue to transportation – the remaining 90 cents is still available for other important state priorities.
That’s why so many DFL leaders and progressive groups support the amendment.
Congressman Oberstar, Mayors Rybak and Coleman and the majority of DFL legislators. Groups that represent core DFL constituencies – 18 labor unions including the Minnesota AFL-CIO, AFSCME Council 5, Amalgamated Transit Union, International Operating Engineers, Laborers, Carpenters and Joiners, Teamsters, Minnesota Building & Construction Trades Council and the United Transportation Union. Others include Transit for Livable Communities, the Central Corridor Partnership, Minnesota Center for Environmental Advocacy, Sierra Club, Minnesota League of Conservation Voters, the Minnesota Senior Federation, the League of Minnesota Cities and 66 Minnesota counties.
These are people who want to make sure we have good roads and a strong transit system. They know that we can do that while also supporting education and health care.
VOTE YES on November 7th.
