WALZ CHOSEN TO SERVE ON HOUSE AGRICULTURE COMMITTEE

12/12/2006

(Washington, D.C.) - Congressman-elect Tim Walz received word today that he has been chosen to serve on the House Agriculture Committee. Walz is the only freshman thus far to be appointed to the committee. The House Agriculture Committee was Walz’s first choice.

Fellow Minnesota, Collin Peterson is slated to chair the House Agriculture Committee when the Democrats take control of the House of Representatives in January.

“I am honored to serve on this prestigious committee with my good friend and colleague Collin Peterson,” said Walz of his appointment. “Agriculture is an essential part of the Minnesota economy and there are great strides to be made with the 2007 Farm Bill. Rep. Peterson and I have discussed a number of visionary ideas for renewable fuels and conservation and I’m eager to get to work on these ideas.”

"Congressman-elect Walz will be an outstanding addition to the House Agriculture Committee, particularly as we begin to write the 2007 Farm Bill,” said Chairman-designate Collin Peterson. “This is great news for Minnesota agriculture, and I look forward to his valuable input on the Committee."

Minnesota’s 1st Congressional District is the 5th largest producer of agricultural products in the nation.

A second round of committee assignments will be made in the next few weeks.
