Walz: The IRS Owes 150 Southern Minnesotans Tax Refunds
12/11/2007
(Mankato, MN) – Today, Congressman Tim Walz announced that 150 taxpayers in southern Minnesota are owed unclaimed tax refunds from the IRS. Nationwide, there are 115,478 taxpayers who have unclaimed tax refund checks worth about $110 million.
“Tax relief for middle class families is one of my highest priorities in Congress,” said Walz. “An important part of that is ensuring that Minnesotans receive the tax refunds they are entitled to. Thousands of refund checks get returned every year because someone may have changed their last name or moved. I hope that everyone who thinks they may have an unclaimed refund will take a moment to look at my website at http://www.house.gov/walz to see if the IRS owes them money.”
Taxpayers can receive their money as soon as they update their address with the IRS. Southern Minnesotans can receive their money by:
· Visiting Congressman Walz’s website at http://www.house.gov/walz to see if A) their name is on the list of taxpayers owed money, and B) to find out how to claim their money.
· Visiting IRS.gov to access the tool “Where’s My Refund?” Taxpayers can check the status of their refunds and provide instructions on how to resolve delivery problems.
· Accessing the telephone version of “Where’s My Refund?” by calling 1-800-829-1954.
Walz has been a strong advocate in Congress for easing the tax burden for middle class families. He recently voted to prevent 23 million American taxpayers from having to pay the Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT) next year, and has been a strong proponent of doing everything possible on the federal level to reduce the property tax burden for homeowners in Southern Minnesota.
