Wendell Anderson: The Little Guy
01/26/2006

Dear Fellow Minnesotan:
More than any other Minnesota elected official, Mike Hatch has stood up for individual rights and been the great equalizer for the little guy. He has fought to obtain consent orders, injunctions, or stipulations:
With all 125 Minnesota hospitals requiring that they no longer charge those without insurance coverage more than what they charge insurance companies. (The hospitals previously charged three times more to the uninsured for the exact same service.)
With the three HMOs, representing 85 percent of the Minnesota health care market, to mandate 24 hour review of mental health coverage denials by a panel of three retired judges.
With predatory mortgage lenders that deceived borrowers about loan fees, interest rates, and credit insurance.
With utilities mandating that they not turn off the heat on homeowners during the winter months.
With banks that improperly sold confidential information of depositors.
With homeowners insurers mandating that they cover the repair of cosmetic damage to the outside of homes.
With major automobile dealers to reform the sale of auto warranties and “spot financing.”
With insurers that “packed” illegal commissions and overcharged businesses for commercial insurance.
With cell phone companies and lenders that used misleading advertisements in commercials.
With equity strippers and lenders that prey upon people in foreclosure.
As a former governor, I can tell you this: Mike Hatch will make a great governor. And, according to last week’s Wall Street Journal/Zogby poll, Mike is the only candidate to have a lead over the governor, a lead Mike has maintained for almost five months.
I hope you will show your support for Mike by making a contribution today.
Sincerely,
Wendell Anderson
