Wetterling: A Messagage of Thanks
11/23/2005
Dear Friends,
Thanksgiving is for many reasons one of my favorite holidays.
I like to take time Wednesday night or Thanksgiving morning to call friends to say thank you. Thank you for being there for me. Thank you for all of your support. Thank you for being you and making my life richer with your friendship.
I will set aside a quiet moment to thank our courageous troops. We honor their service and pray that this is their last Thanksgiving away from home.
At dinnertime, we will say a prayer of thanks for those around the table and for those who cannot be with us. I am so very blessed by friends and a wonderful family. I don’t think I thank them enough.
One year I spent Thanksgiving Day with some family members at a shelter in San Francisco serving food to the many who didn’t have anything to eat or even a place to sit down. It sure made my daily complaints seem small and menial. Maybe that was the year I really thought about this wonderful holiday and the real celebration it can be for most of us.
We all lead such busy lives, it feels good to take a day to think about all the things we can be grateful for, especially this year.
What are you thankful for this Thanksgiving?
Share your story!
Most of us have shelter, family, warm clothes and on this particular day, way too much food.
The smells of roasting turkey, the warmth of the oven, the sounds of people arriving, the conversation, the football games, the sharing of stories that make us laugh so hard we cry, the lounging around with nowhere else to be, conjure up wonderful memories for me and I am so grateful.
This year I will add my thanks for the opportunity to campaign for the office of the United States Senate. Being out and about has strengthened my desire to represent children and families in Washington and continue my work in building a better, safer world for the very future of this country.
Thank you for this opportunity. Thank you for your support. Thank you for believing that together, we do make a difference.
I’d love to hear about your traditions and things you are thankful for. Please visit my website and join in the growing list of amazing thankful thoughts this Thanksgiving.
Thanks - on a day of thanks,
