Minnesota DFL Party calls on Sen. Coleman to explain his month’s worth of privately funded travel
ST. PAUL (1/20/06) - Today the Star Tribune released figures revealing the highest rates of privately paid-for travel among members of the Minnesota Delegation. Topping the list was jet set Sen. Norm Coleman.
“Sen. Coleman clocked in at more than triple the amount traveled by any other member of the Minnesota delegation,” said Minnesota DFL spokesperson David Ruth. “Considering the Republican scandal in Washington, it’s only reasonable that Sen. Coleman explain why he thought it necessary to take a month’s worth of privately-funded adventures last year alone.
“Sen. Coleman lists close to $5,000 of these expenses as ‘gifts from a long-term friend’,” said Ruth. “Now I have some very dear, very long-term friends, and I have to say that not a single one of them has shelled out five grand for me to take a vacation. Obviously, my friends don’t have the same connections as our senator’s.
“Democrats demand honesty and integrity from those elected to serve the interests of the people,” said Ruth. “Since Minnesota taxpayers aren’t shelling out for Sen. Coleman’s airfare, we demand to know how he plans to thank his more affluent friends for these trips.”
